It’s incredible to think that only a few years ago, the very idea of “meditating” was
considered a bit hippy or woo-woo, and now there’s an entire day dedicated to this beautiful practice.
And while meditation clearly has gained more mainstream popularity, with many Fortune 500 companies offering meditation classes to their employees, and hundreds of scientific studies proving just how beneficial it can be on our wellbeing…
… A lot of people who try meditation often do NOT continue the practice.
Why?
I believe a big reason is because meditation in the western world is grossly misunderstood.
You see, most people are taught to “clear their mind” or “focus on their breath”.
Some even choose to disappear for those 10-day silent retreats.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with this.
But there is a glaring problem.
These approaches tend to stem from more monastic styles of meditation. So unless you live, eat and sleep in a monastery, and have dedicated yourself to being a monk, this practices are extremely difficult to apply in the modern world.
The other issue is this…
Meditation is just one of the many transcendent practices out there.
A transcendent practice is anything that helps you transcend your physical body so you can go “within.”
So things like gratitude, energy healing, and even out-of body experiences are all transcendent practices — But they’re not necessarily meditation.
Here’s the thing.
Having just a singular meditation practice without graduating to the higher levels of transcendence is like thinking that the only form of exercise there is, is jogging.
To really enhance your body, you need to explore a wide variety of other exercises.
And so, my particular meditation practice is to actually go beyond meditation.
My 6 Phase practice is part of that, which is my personal style that I had experimented on for years – Distilling wisdom from age-old spiritual practices and merging it with the latest scientific research.
The 6 Phase goes beyond just passive breathing to a more active, scientifically-proven approach to meditation that is about empowering yourself to make a change in the world.
Because what the world needs is not people who are absorbed in endless introspection.
But people who are using the forces, powers and abilities that introspection, meditation, transcendent practices and other forms of going “within” provide you, and unleashing this to shift the world around us for the better.
As Mindvalley’s meditation teacher, Emily Fletcher, once said, “we meditate to get good at life not to get good at meditation.”
If you’d like to learn my style of meditation, I made my 6 Phase practice available for free on our powerful new meditation app - Soulvana.
