Moving Consciously Through Grief

Covid. Yes, of course. The virus has resulted in deaths, which were out of the norm.

It caught us by surprise as a society, and that is just so painful. Even more difficult to bear is the reality that many people died isolated, cut off from their loved ones, resulting in a kind of “layered grief”.

As an indirect cause of Covid, we experienced heightened isolation, fear, anxiety and depression. When the as-yet-unsettled dust of 2020 finally settles and the tallies are made, we will discover that there were more drug overdose deaths and suicides than any single year in U.S. history.

Beyond people, other important things have been lost at least temporarily. Here is a list of them, to name but a few.

  • Our normal way of life
  • Feelings of safety
  • Jobs
  • Going to the office
  • Our personal and financial security
  • Togetherness, handshakes, hugging and kissing
  • Live music, theater and art gatherings
  • All concerts, festivals and conferences
  • Restaurants (to a great extent)

Grief is an important natural process. If we do not seize the opportunity for grief, it has an unfortunate way of sticking with us, burying itself deep in the tissues of the body.

While painful and difficult, it is critical to take the time to grieve and express to the Universe with open heart and a lot of tears that something important has been lost.

There are certain practices which help to process the energy of grief out of the body rather than allowing it to get stuck.

There are also key psychological concepts and philosophies which assist us in moving through grief and learning all it has to teach us.

Since we do not really like speaking about death, we rarely speak about grief, much less actually go through it.

After a year like we have just had, where the individual and collective grief is so profound, I felt it would be valuable to come together as a community to shine a spotlight on what has happened.

We will explore grief and not run from it. Let us treat this time together, not just as a webinar, but as a moment of ritual, recognition and recovery.

Come ready to do some very basic seated movements, breathwork and meditation.

Also bring a pen and paper.

This webinar is open to the public. Please invite all who need to be there.
