Why did you get into business?

If you’re like many entrepreneurs I know, you probably wanted the freedom to set you own
hours, make your own rules, and get paid well to make a real difference in the world doing what you love to do.
The truth is, though, many business owners simply end up creating themselves not so much a business but a J-O-B. And in many cases, it’s not even the job they applied for.
Be honest:
  • How much time do you really spend in your business doing what you’re best at, what you love to do – and how much time gets sucked up putting out fires or doing necessary tasks that don’t allow you to play to your strengths?
  • When was the last time you took a vacation without checking in remotely eight times a day? Can you even go home at night without bringing your business home with you?
  • Do you find yourself daydreaming about the awesome directions you could take in your business—if only you could find the time to plan for and implement them?
  • You may set your own hours, but are they hours any sane person would agree to work?
There’s a difference between being the boss IN your business, and being the boss OF your business. Are you really the boss? Or is your business the boss of you?
